Te Reo Term 4

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…

• The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
• The Marea is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
• The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
• There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
• Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focused on some key concepts when doing this learning.

These are listed and explained in the table below.

Pōwhiri	Welcoming ceremony e.g welcoming visitors.
Tangata whenua	People who belong in the marae.
Manuhiri	Visitors to the marae.
Tūrangawaewae	People who live in the marae.
Whanaungatanga	The connection between you and the marae.
Manaakitanga	Care about someone.
Aroha	The respect and love for someone at the marae.

I found that the Maori translation was different to the English version.
What i want to know is what if they didn't sign the treaty.

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

• We have equal rights
• That their are multiple party in parliament
• You need over 50% of the votes to govern

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Me, myself and I and we decided to create a water filter.

Success Criteria ( A good TV ad, water filter or Children’s Story needs...

A good TV ad, water filter or Children’s Story needs...	Why is this important?
To filter healthy clean water.	Because we need to drink clear and healthy water otherwise we will get sick.
To be strong and durable.	Because if it isn’t strong enough it will break and it won’t filter any water.
To be light and you can carry it around.	So it’s easier to carry around and have drinkable water.
To have the materials.	Because if don't have the materials the water filter won't work.
To have good materials that won't expire	So you can use the water filter for a long period of time.

Overall our project do not meet this criteria because we haven't tested our water filter yet.

Music

I can describe the characteristics of music in songs from the past and present and from different genres.

Over the past 9 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of various times and genres.

What did you find most interesting during this topic.

I found good songs need all the characteristics interesting because Every characteristic has something a good song needs like notes put together to make the song unique.
